My Story

I always wanted a bulldog and when the opportunity arose I got one! Working from home I could give my dog the care and attention it required but my job changed, I was out all day and having to leave my beloved Bomber at home alone. Dog walkers didn’t exist back then and I started looking online to see what services were out there that could help me. My research took me to Doggie Daycares in America and I fell in love with the bright fun looking centres that were run like a nursery. I realised that there was a gap in the market and decided to take a great leap of faith and leave my job of 15yrs at Slimming World to embark on my career working with dogs. My ambition was to have my very own Doggie Daycare Centre.

I knew working with dogs would be very different from owning one so I started as a dog walker and home boarder learning my craft. After 7 years I moved into my very own centre and now after 10yrs I have two!

My business has grown enormously over the last 10yrs but the fundamentals have and will never change. Aunties is always about the dogs and we are very lucky we get to look after so many beautiful ones.

The one thing I love about my role now is that I get to train and mentor my staff. Being able to impart the knowledge I have learn over the years and seeing them learn and grow in their roles is my greatest accomplishment.

Favourite Breed and Why

Position: Spa Apprentice

Length of Service: 1year

My Story

I was leaving school to start an Animal Management course at Myerscough College and I needed 10 days work experience to be accepted on the course. Our family dog Benji gets groomed at Aunties Dog Spa so I asked them if it was possible to do the days with them. They kindly agreed and over the summer I learnt how the Spa was run including bathing and bathing the dogs. During this time, I realised I wanted to pursue a career in Dog Grooming. Aunties had heard of my ambition and offered me a job as a Spa Apprentice which I accepted straight away! I have really enjoyed the last year and can’t wait to be a qualified Dog Groomer!

Favourite Breed and Why

Boxers – Our first family dog was a Boxer and you never forget your first love!

Position: Daycare Leader

Length of Service: 2years (Daycare Leader 1year)

My Story

We bought our family dog Pippa as a therapy dog and attended training classes held at Aunties Doggie Daycare. I loved the training classes and the setting and asked the owner ‘Auntie Lisa’ if it was possible to do some volunteering. As I was only 16 I was not allowed to work in the Daycare but Aunties Lisa suggested speaking to her Spa Supervisor to see if Dog Grooming would appeal to me and it did! I started working in the Grooming Spa learning how to bath and dry the dogs, watching the Groomers perform their magic! After volunteering for 6 months I was offered a position as a Spa Apprentice which I was delighted to accept. Once I was old enough to work in the Daycare I helped cover on occasion and started to realise that’s where my passion lied. I have been working in the Daycare for nearly a year now and I have loved every minute.

Favourite Breed and Why

Beagles – Because they are cheeky!

Position: Daycare Supervisor

Length of Service: 1year

My Story

I have always had a passion for animals from a young age. I left school and started an apprenticeship at an animal farm. Once I completed the course I was offered a position as a Park Keeper. I worked with a variety of animals from Degu’s to Wild Boar and Red Deer. Whilst working as a Park Keeper I got to work with the farmers sheep dog Cassie, I thoroughly enjoyed working with her which is why I went on to rescue Oscar a Collie from a local farm. Working with Cassie and rehabilitating Oscar made me realise working with dogs was what I wanted to do. I was very excited when I saw the vacancy at Aunties Doggie Daycare and was delighted when I was offered the job. After 7mths as a Daycare Leader I was promoted to Daycare Supervisor, I love the role I have as I get to work with the dogs and get a better understanding of how the business works.

Favourite Breed and Why

Italian Spinone – Because they are a specialist breed and I find them fascinating. Especially their kind eyes!

My Story

I have always wanted a career working with dogs and I looked at all different types of jobs including dog training with the Army and Police but I wanted to incorporate my creative side so I decided to fund myself through a City & Guilds Dog Grooming Qualification. After I qualified I applied for a vacancy as a Part Time Dog Groomer at Aunties Dog Spa. I have worked my way up to Spa Supervisor which I am really proud of and get to not only groom a variety of wonderful dogs I also get to have an input into how the business is run.
